"… Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath." Heb. 6:16-17
God promised Abraham that he would receive blessings and that he in turn would become a blessing to all the families of the earth. After Abraham had demonstrated his faithfulness to the Lord in offering his son Isaac (Genesis 22), God confirmed the promise with an oath. This is the event referred to by the writer of Hebrews, who affirms that the reason for the oath was to make the "unchanging nature of his purpose very clear." God is committed by oath to bless His people and through them to bless every family (people group) of the earth.
Father, thank You for making Your purposes so clear to us, heirs of the promise to Abraham.

"Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall…" Heb. 4:11
What a beautiful paradox: "make every effort to enter that rest." This verse simply summarizes the biblical balance between resting in God's work and striving to accomplish God's purposes. Any effort which is not based on a reliance on God's work is vain and futile. Yet at the same time, we must not sit back complacently because of what God has already accomplished by creation and redemption. We must diligently labor while placing our confidence in God's power working in and through us to accomplish the task before us.
Pray that you will work faithfully in prayer for the unreached, and that you will rest in the confidence that He will complete your work.

How easy it is to be caught up in sin's deception, thereby losing the joy Jesus has promised us. One of sin's most enticing deceptions is the insistent call to look out for our own interests first. In contrast, God's Word tells us that when we seek God's kingdom and His righteousness, He will take care of us. We need daily encouragement, and a major purpose of this daily devotional guide is to encourage each of us to adopt as our own God's concern for the salvation of all peoples. To know of their need and of God's love and to do nothing is to become hardened in our hearts.
Dear Father, please make our hearts sensitive to Your love, not only toward us but for those who still do not know about Jesus.

"God left nothing that is not subject to Him (Jesus)." That is the goal, the way things will be, both in our own lives and in the whole world. "Yet at present, we do not see everything subject to Him." That is the situation now. Our task, then, is to move from the present situation to the goal. Our work is to proclaim the message of Christ so that some from every nation are persuaded to become His disciples and responsible members of His Church. In this way many who are not yet subject to Him will voluntarily bow the knee before the day He returns to reign uncontested.

pray for us!
"I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ." Philemon 6
It has been observed that only when we share the gospel across cultural barriers can we fully comprehend the gospel message ourselves. When we see the truths of the gospel through the eyes of another culture, those truths come alive for us in a new way. Sharing our faith with another people group forces us to examine what in our worship must be universal and what is only cultural. Perhaps the confusion which pervades so many of our churches about the content of the gospel message is due to our failure to seriously share this message with other groups.
Pray that a frontier missions priority in our churches will result in our greater understanding of "every good thing we have in Christ."

What a tremendous promise-"thoroughly equipped for every good work!" One great challenge in thrusting a new generation of laborers into the harvest is providing training in the Word of God. New means of training tens of thousands of cross-cultural workers must be found to supplement the excellent education provided through the years by existing Bible colleges and seminaries.
Father, use Your Word as You have promised to equip existing and prospective missionaries to proclaim Jesus to Muslims, Chinese, Hindus, Buddhists, tribals, and others without a church of their own.

Have you considered what it might be like for the thousands of peoples in today's world who do not have the Bible in their own languages? Think of the help and comfort you receive daily from God's Word-to say nothing of the most basic knowledge of new life in Jesus Christ. Pray today for those who are struggling to make God's Word clear and understandable in people groups where the knowledge of Christ has not broken through.
Pray that God will provide His Word for those who have never heard by using you in praying, giving, sending, or going!

God has committed His Word to us-the revelation of who He is and the statement of His purpose for us. In order to "correctly handle" this Word, we must understand and use it as God intended. God outlined His purpose for mankind in the Garden of Eden and His plan to accomplish that purpose in His covenant with Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3). God's deepest concern is to bring people from every nation (cultural group) into fellowship with Himself. Today about 8,000 of these cultural groups have no Christian community in their midst. Our correct handling of the Word of truth will place priority on God's clearly-revealed purposes for these unreached peoples.
Lord, open our eyes to understand Your Word, and then lead us to obey what we learn.

The military metaphor has fallen on hard times in many parts of the evangelical community. Yet there are many ways in which a committed Christian is like a soldier. Paul speaks here of a Christian enduring hardship like a soldier. Why does a soldier endure hardship? To win! He sees the commander's cause as the overriding priority of his life, and does whatever is required of him to win the battle. How much hardship are we ready to endure to see Jesus Christ seal His victory over Satan, so that people from every people, tribe, tongue, and nation may recognize Him as Lord?
Lord Jesus, make us good soldiers!

What a beautiful description of the inheritance received by God's people, including those taking the good news of Christ into new cultural groups! "Power, love, and self-discipline." Those who will establish new churches must know the power of God to overcome both spiritual and cultural barriers of understanding and acceptance. They must share the love which God has for other peoples-peoples different from themselves. They must exercise the control and discipline of God's Spirit to accomplish difficult work.
Pray that today's pioneer missionaries will exercise the power, love, and self-discipline of the Holy Spirit in their lives and ministries.

i'm graciously reminded by Papa through my own foolishness & weakness that as much as i like to pray for others, i'm also in need of prayer covering too! i've been grossly sick to the point of being sick of being sick these past few days, struggling to cling to faith in His goodness & giving thanks to Him in ALL circumstances.

Each of us has received a similar "deposit" from the Lord. What kind of stewardship are you exercising?
Lord, help me to be a faithful steward of all that You have given me, using it to bring Your salvation to those who still need to hear.

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Tim. 6:10
Jesus clearly said, "No man can serve two masters…you cannot serve God and mammon (which means gain or advantage)." God created us with a need to love Him. When we turn from loving God as a central focus in life, we try to fill that void by devoting our love to something far less worthy than the Lord. And whatever we love that is less than God soon becomes "god" to us. If we substitute the love of money for the love of God, we open ourselves to a myriad of sorrows and disappointments.
Father, keep us from greed. Fill our hearts with love for You, our Provider and Sustainer, and with commitment to Your purposes.

pray for us!
"But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that." 1 Tim. 6:8
Food and clothing: the list is short when we tally the real necessities of life. Even if we expand this list (e.g., adding shelter, health, etc.), the list is still much shorter than that of our monthly budget. Today a bottleneck in frontier missions expansion is due to a lack of funding for new ventures. Mission agencies are willing to lead. Young people are willing to go. But finances are not available. Why? Did God miscalculate the resources needed to accomplish His work? Or have those resources, committed to his stewards, been diverted to other uses?
Father, may we be found faithful stewards of what You've given us.

i may be stupid **but** THE FINAL WORD IS: I AM LOVED!! lost in a MAZE of grace!!
i got stuck in a toilet tonight.trapped by my own stupidity & i wannted get out of there or die!
Papa God has a sense of humor. He's the inventor of funny!!
tonight was definite evidence of that.
for the most part of the last i don't know, few weeks/months,
i've been feeling like if there was a King of stupidity, i'd be wearing the crown - backwards of course, or inside-out, as i seem to do so often with actual pieces of clothing i wear (!!)
it seems without even trying very hard, almost naturally, i seem to keep getting into situations purely the result of my own stupidity
--only then to have to wait for someone, somehow, to go to great lengths to get me out of the pits of stupidity i keep digging for myself & then fall into ...
tonight was another normal session of the Kairos missions course [see www.kairoscourse.org], and all was going well until . . .
the terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad toilet door lock jammed on a brother.
the ession ended well, when i was called upstairs to pray with some brothers & sisters [for what i still don't know, funny how Papa God turned me into being a new prayer item!!]
whilst waiting for the others to arrive for prayer, quite naturally, nature called & i answered.
guess which toilet i went into.

.
yep, that one.
guess which toilet i not only went into but locked!!
yet again the terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad toilet door lock claimed a new victim, only this time it had captured me, and it would take nothing short of a complete destroying of the door lock to get me out.
(whereas in the past all it took to get others out was a mere hit to burst the door open, or in the latest case tonight some desperate fiddling with the lock & some car keys)
i banged & twisted the knob with all my "might" [ie not alot!], all to no avail.
the thought never even occurred to me to shout/cry out for help ... pride is SO STUPID!
with my mobile phone i called a brother who should've been outside praying informing him i'd been locked in the toilet ...
just imagine how incredibly stupid i was feeling, knowing full well just half an hour ago this toilet had trapped another victim, after locking the door.
thankfully my dad & brother Mun were still around, hopefully they could bash the door down or dismantle the lock.
i cowered in awe at the sheer force with which they tried to break open the door, thinking the whole room would crumble & fall into a heap on me. what a way to die :P
i'm still dumbfounded that for some unfathomable reason, Papa God still wants me alive!
He gave me life again 6 years ago after a near-fatal scooter accident [again, victim of my own stupidity] left the doctors treating me dismissing me as a hopeless case. if anything i'd be permanently comatose, or a human vegetable, or confined to a wheelchair, or a youthful entry into a nursing home ...
reflecting upon my helpless situation, i did the only thing i knew i could - pray.
after all, the only reason why i'm not permanently comatose /a human vegetable /confined to a wheelchair / a youthful entry into a nursing home was because Papa God chose to work trough the prayers of His people & give me life again from sure death!
the song "God will make a way, where there seems to be no way" played in my mind. i sung it softly, but i really should've shouted it at the top of my lungs!
crumbling under the weight of my perceived gross stupidity, i guess.
how could such a fool sing in a situation like this?!
and yet i did!
. . . such is the wonder of being in Living, Personal Relationship with the King & Creator of The Universe, that even in the deepest pits of self-inflicted darkness, there is rMUCH ABUNDANT reason to sing - SIMPLY BECAUSE HE IS GOD!
as my dad & brother Mun tried all they could to fre me, i wondered if i was really worth the effort.
my miraculous recovery from the accident should've proved beyond doubt that i was, yet i must be so thick-headed [or just plain deceived into believing the same old lies i'd bought into ever since my teen years] as to even ponder the option of jumping out the window & perhaps ending my life in a messy heap, making null & void all efforts thus far to get me out.
i didn't want to inflict such pain on those who love me, and yet how much longer could i stand living like this??
with my pride completely pummeled to dust & feeling like i must be a horrible burden on those who knew me, surely people had better things to spend their time & effort on than help me out of another stupid situation i'd gotten myself into??
in the deepest pits of my despair, Papa God reached down to me & lifted my head. =D 8D :D
He seemed to be saying to my heart: "I love you, I am for you, I will help you, I made you, you are Mine, you are precious & valuable to me. STOP THINKING SUCH SELF-DESTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS, MY CHILD, I'M GONNA GET YOU OUTTA HERE!!"

the reality was, in spite of all my distorted perceptions of myself, Papa God was right there with me in the deepest pits of my despair. He is Mighty to Save, He delights over me with gladness, calming all my fears with His love & rejoicing over me with joyful singing! (see Zephaniah :17)
i don't need anything in this world.
all i need is grace, the AMAZING grace of the Papa God who loves me with an undying love, which is unchanging truth!
after coming home, i asked my dad, "i'm so stupid. how can you keep loving me???"
dad's reply *smiles* "you're not stupid!!" [you're my son -- not spoken but understood in my hrt :)]
blessed truth. O, to STAY FIXED IN HIS TRUTH & NOT MY DECEPTIONS!

another timely reminder through my God-given dad that i'm not loved because of anything i do / don't do, but always, in spite of who i am, i'm loved BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS, AND HE IS LOVE!!

This steward commendably used his position to gain favor with his employer's customers in order to make provision for his future. God makes clear that we cannot carry material wealth out of this world. But we can invest material goods in things that last forever-the destiny of men. Every dollar we contribute to frontier missions outreach pays eternal dividends. It's true that we can't take money with us-but we can send it on ahead.
Pray that God will give us the wisdom to invest our money in things that last forever.
