"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." 1 Tim. 6:10
Jesus clearly said, "No man can serve two masters…you cannot serve God and mammon (which means gain or advantage)." God created us with a need to love Him. When we turn from loving God as a central focus in life, we try to fill that void by devoting our love to something far less worthy than the Lord. And whatever we love that is less than God soon becomes "god" to us. If we substitute the love of money for the love of God, we open ourselves to a myriad of sorrows and disappointments.

Father, keep us from greed. Fill our hearts with love for You, our Provider and Sustainer, and with commitment to Your purposes.
