"Abraham had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold." Gen. 13:2
One of the surprising and yet widely misunderstood principles in Scripture is that God has no problem with making people wealthy. All throughout the Bible God raises people up to positions of power and influence. However, the purpose of this blessing must always be understood in the context in which God has placed it. He said to Abraham, "I will bless you . . . and all peoples will be blessed through you" (Gen. 12:2-3). Without the purpose behind the success, that which was intended to bless can become a curse. The solution to this dilemma is to understand that we are but stewards of blessing. So rather than blessing as an end in itself, it's blessing with a mission, God's mission to redeem all peoples to Himself.
