"For this is what the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" Acts 13:47
Instead of quoting his own commission to the Gentiles given to him on the road to Damascus, he chose to quote God’s commission of all Jews as found in Isaiah 49:6. In rejecting that commission, the Jewish leaders who listened to Paul not only rejected the Gentiles and Paul; they rejected God Himself. As a result, Paul turned to the Gentiles, who immediately “began rejoicing and glorifying the work of the Lord.” The result? “The Word of the Lord spread through the whole region.” Yes, the nations are responsive to the gospel, if we will only bring it to them!
Pray that the Lord will lead His workers to members of unreached people groups who are most responsive.
"Now those who had been scattered…traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. Some of them, however…went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also." Acts 11:19-20
In a similar fashion, isn’t preoccupation with “our own kind of people” the norm today? The vast majority of full-time Christian workers are minis-tering to those of their own culture who are already at least nominally Christians. Certainly these people need to hear the gospel clearly, as did the Jews of the i rst century. But how much more do those peoples who know only a shred of the truth deserve full-time workers among them?
Let us rededicate ourselves to the task of telling the good news of Christ’s resurrection to those unreached peoples who have yet to hear this miraculous story.
"'How can I [understand],' he said, 'unless someone explains it to me?' Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus." Acts 8:31-35
Philip asked the Ethiopian (probably a Gentile proselyte) if he understood what he was reading, and the man admitted that he did not. Many valuable literature and radio ministries are being conducted today among some of the world’s unreached peoples. But these peoples often have the same problem as the Ethiopian eunuch: they need further face-to-face explanation of what they read and hear. The Great Commission is a call for God’s people to live among peoples isolated from such opportunities.
Pray for more face-to-face laborers who will begin from the Scriptures and preach Jesus to unreached peoples.
