Dom People In India
* MUCH MORE about this people group at the JOSHUA PROJECT
The walls of Ramea's hut were once again stained with the fresh blood of a pigeon, but still she felt the weight and burden of her guilt. Animal sacrifices to a god who never answers are useless, she mused. But even if there were another way, Ramea would never hear about it, for her husband and all her neighbors are equally committed to serving gods or ancestors who never seem to answer.
As a Dom woman, there is no hope for anything else other than the crushing weight of her spiritual darkness. As she leaves in the morning to supplement her husband's income by begging, she is met with reminders of her second-class status: her lack of education, lack of status or respect in the community and no chance for her outside the Dom community.
A welcome relief from the realities of daily poverty for the Dom people is their artistic expression through music, poetry and dance. With a rich oral tradition, and a desire to recount the history of their people, there is never a lack of stories to tell.
Christ alone can bring true value and worth to a people, and specific communities like theirs require specific ministry by people committed to representing Christ where He is not being worshipped.

Pray for the Lord to thrust forth His representatives to show the Dom people the way to the final sacrifice, that of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.-MB

"And they sang a new song: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because You were slain, and with Your blood You purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.'" Rev. 5:9b

The Dom people of India are noted for two things: Their low status, and their artistic abilities. Some of them deal with the dead, even dead cows, a sacred animal to the Hindus. Yet, Wikipedia notes that they have a "rich oral tradition and express their culture and history through music, poetry and dance." Could it be that we will one day find Dom people gratefully rejoicing in the blood that was shed for their sins?

Pray that this day will come soon!
