pray for the unreached!

"So then [Abraham] is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them." Romans 4:11
Chapter four is an extensive explanation that Abraham's righteousness came from faith rather than from works, including the work of circumcision. He was counted as righteous before he became circumcised, and so he is able to be called the father of all who truly believe, whether they are circumcised or not. This was a radical statement for Paul to make, but he was explaining to the Gentiles and the Jews in the church at Rome that they both fit into God's Kingdom on the basis of the obedience of faith from the heart.

Thank the Lord that He has made all the Gentiles potential members of His Kingdom by faith, not by works.

"Is he not the God of Gentiles too?" Romans 3:29
The passage of Romans 3:21-29 is a glorious one, proclaiming that we are justified not by the outward performance of the works of the Law, but by an inward heart of obedience and faith. The path to becoming righteous in God's sight is the same for all men-the gift of His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus (v.24). Meditate on this great truth today. The very God that we worship is the same God over the entire human race. He's the God of Animists, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Taoists, Buddhists, and others. They may not know it, but He is their God. How He longs to be their Savior, too! What a wonder it is that He has entrusted us with the gospel to share with them.

Pray that the Father will help us to see the unreached peoples as He does.

"What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all!" Romans 3:3-4
What if some Christians today really believe that we need not go to the unreached peoples, or that the task is impossible? Would that render null and void God's command to go and His promise that the unreached peoples will be reached? Absolutely not! Yet we often find both of these attitudes today. Some Christians don't really believe that the Lord meant us to go to all the nations with the gospel. Others may believe the command, but are overwhelmed and totally discouraged by the immensity of the task.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will give us the desire to be faithful to carry Christ's gospel to the ends of the earth.

"God's Name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." Romans 2:24
In this rebuke of the Jews for their religious inconsistency, Paul makes reference to Isaiah 52:5 and Ezekiel 36:21-22. It was an old problem. The Jews, as God's chosen people, had again and again violated the Law of God and lapsed into idolatry, immorality and economic oppression. The nations watched, and seeing Israel's disobedience, blasphemed instead of praising and adoring the Lord's Name. Today, the Lord's Name is often blasphemed among many nations because of the behavior of Christians in the West. Our attitudes and our use of wealth often inhibit or even destroy our witness in the world.

Pray for purity in the Church so that the Name of the Lord will be praised among the nations.

" Now you, if you call yourself a Jew…" Romans 2:17
Paul is asking the Jews at this point to examine themselves. They have the Law and the truth, they teach others, and preach, but do they do the things they are telling others not to do? In other words, do they practice what they preach? What if Paul were here today to ask us the same questions? If you bear the name believer…. What does it mean to be a believer? The name implies submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ and a commitment to His Word. It also connotes an attitude-one that is willing to give up life's smaller ambitions for the sake of Christ's global cause.

Pray that the Father may find us to be fully committed believers for the sake of the unreached peoples.

"For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous." Romans 2:13
This verse is very similar to James 1:22, which states, But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. Missionary conferences, mission weekends at churches, and mission emphasis weeks at Bible colleges are wonderful in raising awareness of missions. However, some Christians seem to think that if they attend these special meetings, they have fulfilled their duty. Not so! Each Christian needs to play some active part in the Great Commission, whether through giving, praying faithfully, going as missionaries themselves, or sending others.

Pray that the Father will make us doers of His Word, not hearers only.

"I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish…to preach the gospel." Romans 1:14, 15

Paul's obligation was not a promise, or a formal contract, but a demand deep within his conscience. Rather than leisurely carrying out some religious responsibility, Paul eagerly fulfilled his debt of gratitude to the One who had paid a great price for his salvation. We, too, are under such an obligation. Imagine the impact of scattered fellowships of believers across the globe who fulfill their obligation to preach the gospel in order to reap a harvest among all peoples! Have you and your church recognized your obligation to proclaim the gospel?

Pray that you and your church body will fulfill the debt God gave us to reach out to the nations through prayer.
