started the day, diving into habitual sin yet again . . . like Paul I cry "O wretched man that I am! who will delver me from this body of death?"
Papa, in His typical gracious style drives me, in light of the lies of my sin to The Truth of His Word & The Truth of His Person :)
saw visible reminders of my mothers' love for me who might not know about my "secret sin" - then it was as if Papa gently spoke to me, "if your mother who mightn't know about your sin still loves you anyway, HOW MUCH MORE do i love you, my precious child, though i know your sin full well but gave my Only Beloved Son for you anyway?"

No one is exempt from the necessity of repenting of his or her sins in order to find forgiveness. Nor is any disciple of Jesus excluded from the wonderful responsibility of proclaiming His Name to all nations. If all Christians took this obligation more seriously, the nations would quickly hear of the urgent necessity of repentance and the wonderful availability of eternal life. All believers are "witnesses of these things" (vs. 48). Does your witness extend to the nations? Are you praying daily for the world's unreached peoples? Does at least part of your missions giving go to those places where there is not yet an indigenous church?

Sound familiar? Jesus cleansed the temple while quoting from Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11. Not only were the Jews at the temple not praying for the nations, they had not reserved a place for the nations to come and pray. The court of the Gentiles, the only place in the temple Gentile proselytes were allowed to enter, was filled with the bleating of sheep and the bawling of cattle. Temple officials, greedy for money, had taken over this area for the sale of animals to be sacrificed.
Is there anything in your life or in the life of your church, which tends to squeeze out ministry to the nations?

The faithful and sensible steward is one who is doing his master's will while waiting for his master's imminent return.

Luke 8:4-15

Wherever you are in your walk with Christ and in your commitment to the cause of proclaiming Him among the nations, carefully consider this parable. What kind of soil are you? You have read of God's concern for the nations; is this word bouncing off you like the seed bounced off the road? Are you rocky soil, becoming excited about missions only once a year at a missionary conference? Will your present commitment to mission be choked by the pleasures and riches of which Jesus spoke? Or will you let your vision grow and multiply as you share it with other Christians, and will you reproduce your life by giving it away for the sake of others?

pray: Father, find us to be "good soil" in which the "seed" of Your Word produces much fruit for Your glory.

Luke 2:30-32
"My eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel."
The angels, Mary, and Zechariah had heralded the coming King. Now Simeon, too, praised God that the birth of baby Jesus revealed a salvation prepared in the sight of all peoples. Luke uses the word 'peoples' in the plural to denote the scope of this baby's ministry. Jesus would not only touch the lives of many individual people, but would also bring light to all peoples and nations-Jew and Gentile alike.

Luke 2:1
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world."
Little did Caesar know that in terms of redemptive history it was now "the fullness of time." (Gal. 4:4) Within the next few short decades the world would be turned upside down by the impact of one little baby born at the time of this royal decree. At that time many people would have considered him just another baby boy whose potential contribution to the world was actually diminished because He was a Jew. But this was to be a "man for all peoples." The impact of His birth would be felt in the halls of Caesar's palace and eventually among every people within the Roman world.

praise! Father, we praise You, our missionary God, whose plan encompasses all peoples within every empire and kingdom of this world.

"He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as He said to our fathers"
Mary praised God for giving her this baby, whom she recognized as a fulfillment of God's covenant with Abraham. Jesus, son of David and son of Abraham, is the fulfillment and the foundation of God's heart desire to bestow blessing after blessing. Though God had seen Israel stray far from obeying Him, He once again in great mercy and compassion, was drawing the nation back to Himself because of His covenant with Abraham. And this was not only for Israel's sake, but also for all nations that were to be blessed through Abraham. The people of God in every age are confronted with a choice: will we give or hoard what we've freely received?

Many accounts of the life of Jesus Christ have been written. In February we examined two of those accounts, written by Matthew and Mark. This month we'll look at Luke and John's gospels. These four gospels give ample and authoritative evidence about Jesus' life and ministry, and they are sufficient to remind us of our calling in this world. What Jesus has begun is to be continued through His Church, and that is, namely, to "make disciples of all nations."
